About
OpenSourceVerdict tests open-source, self-hostable tools in a lab and scores them by a published rubric. The value is data you will not find in a README: whether the install works as written, what the tool really uses, what survives a crash, and the caveats that matter before you run it.
Independence
- No paid reviews. Nobody sees a verdict before it is published.
- No sponsors so far. A future sponsor will never come from a category we score, and every sponsored segment will be said in the video and listed here.
- Not affiliated with the projects we test. Their names and logos belong to their owners and are shown only to identify them.
How the videos are made
The tests, the measurements and the editorial decisions are ours. The narration is a synthetic (AI) voice, the scripts are written with AI assistance, and the graphics are generated by our own code from the measured data. Every sentence is checked against its source before a video is narrated (see the method).
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it on the episode page and in the video's description, with the date and what changed. A wrong number or a wrong fact also goes into the pinned comment. The maintainers of a tool we test can reply: we link their reply on the episode page.
Security findings
We show misconfigurations and their fixes, never steps to attack anyone. When a test finds what looks like a vulnerability, we report it privately to the project first, through its own security channel, and give it 90 days by default before we publish the details.
